• How much is too much?

Date: 2012.05.08 | Category: beauty, fashion, Shopping, women | Response: 0

Some women are happy having two or three lipstick a blush, a foundation and/or powder, one eyeliner and perhaps an eye shadow palette to use for a year or even more. Then there are people like me who are, for some strange reason, addicted to makeup to such a degree that our normal’ friends can only roll their eyes whenever we have new acquisitions. You only have to count the number of beauty blogs out there to believe that women have too much makeup and don’t know when to stop buying.

I have about 40 lipsticks that I use regularly. There are those that I haven’t used or swiped on my lips once or twice and they don’t count if you think that’s being addicted, some women have double or triple that number.

There’s this woman who buys at least four items from every collection by MAC and the brand comes out with one at least every two weeks. When I asked her what she does with all that makeup, she revealed that she stores it in the refrigerator and not just any fridge, mind you. This lady’s makeup has its own personal ret meaning there is nothing inside except lipstick etc. In fact she’s thinking of getting one in a bigger size because she’s fast running out of space

So how much is too much? Does a woman really need more than fl lipsticks and an equal amount of eye shadows to look presentable every day? The answer is no,

Here’s a list of essential makeup items that every woman needs:

Liquid foundation in a shade that matches your skin or is one shade darker

    Powder foundation for lazy days

    Translucent powder (loose or pressed)

Three Lipsticks (one a neutral shade like a pink-brown; a coral and a red)

    Neutral lip gloss

    Powder blush

    Cream blush

    Two neutral eye shadows

Two bright-colored eye shadows (like violet and/or blue)

Mascara (which should be replaced every three months)

    Brow pencil or powder

    Gel eyeliner

Anything more than this is already a luxury and could just go to waste, unless you apply fresh makeup at least three times a day. it would be better to invest in good makeup brushes that will last for years because after all, no matter how expensive your powder or eye shadow i that will not matter if they are not applied property.

It would be good to invest in a foundation brush, powder/blush brush, lip brush, eyeliner brush, eye shadow brush and crease brush, also for eye shading.

  • Eating a little less salt could mean fewer deaths

Date: 2012.04.06 | Category: education, general, health | Response: 0

Some people like their food salty to e. Add to that the various processed foods they eat and the outcome can be most unfortunate.

A study presented at the recent American Heart Association’s 49th Annual Conference on Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention showed that if Americans reduced their salt intake they can expect a longer lifespan. Filipinos consume more salt than Americans in their diet so this study should also be applicable to Filipinos.

According to Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, PhD., M.D., M.A.S., lead author of the study and an assistant professor of Medicine a of Epidemiology at the University of California, San Francisco, for every gram of salt hat Americans reduce in their diets daily, a quarter of a million fewer new heart disease cases and over 200,000 fewer deaths would occur in the next ten years.

“A very modest decrease in the amount of salt — hardly detectable in the taste of food — can have dramatic health benefits for the U.S.7said Dr. Bibbins-Domingo. “It was a surprise to see the magnitude of the impact on the population, given the very small reductions in salt that we were modeling;’ she added.

Based on the study, a 3-gram—a-day reduction in salt intake (about 1200 mg of sodium) would result in 6 percent fewer cases of new heart disease, 8 percent fewer heart attacks, and 3 percent fewer deaths.

Despite robust evidence linking salt intake to high blood pressure and heart disease, salt consumption in America and worldwide has risen by as much as 50 percent and blood pressure has risen proportionately.

Health experts are alarmed that people worldwide are consuming more salt in their diet, reported at 9-12 grams of salt per day (or 3600-4800mg of sodium). This amount is far in excess than recommended by most health organizations (5-6 grams/day of salt or 2000-2400 mg sodium). Each gram of salt contains 0.4 grams of sodium.

“It’s clear that we need to lower salt intake, but individuals find it hard to make substantial cuts because most salt comes from processed foods, not from the salt shaker;’ lamented Dr. Bibbins-Domingo. She added that their study suggests that the food industry and those who regulate it are in the best position to curb this alarming trend by achieving even small reductions in the amount of salt in their processed foods.

On a population perspective, salt restriction has been found to be one of the most cost-effective interventions; and if properly implemented, this could significantly lower the prevalence of high blood pressure and heart disease.

I was still quite young when I first started wearing hearing aids, and over the years it has really served me well and I was able to cope with my life normally with the help of these devices. However, over the years, I started seeing that there were lots and lots of advances with the technology, and of course, with hearing aids too and it seems that a whole lot of new and powerful Digital hearing aids are now available for me to buy and use, but being accustomed to my old one, I never did consider immediately replacing it. But now that my old one is starting to show signs of wear and tear, I really have to replace it now, and of course the best option at this time would be to purchase Digital hearing aids as this is not only the latest, but they happen to look more nice as it is smaller, but at the same time more powerful which makes it even better really. And so I made my research this time and found a good site where I can check comparisons of different brands of digital hearing aids in this site called aidright.com, and true enough, this was a good decision to do such as now I am enjoying great advantages with this new digital hearing aid of mine which is something I have not experienced over the many years that I have been using such a device.

Carrying out my wedding plans overwhelmed me and I was so unorganized to begin with. Planning a big wedding that can accommodate my large family as well as my fiancé’s demanding relatives is really a big feat and since I wanted everything to be perfect I began panicking over small details. Luckily my best friend had time to help me out and she keeps me as calm as possible when I am about to have another outburst. My fiancé also handled some of the tasks that I asked him and good thing he was doing a great job. Since we still cannot decide on the wedding location, I started searching online for possible wedding place. I was beginning to loose hope until my best friend informed about michigan weddings . I did not realize that a perfect place for our wedding is just within the vicinity and we can transport all of our guests in their historic landmark just within an hour from our location. The vast garden can really accommodate all of our guests and the setting is absolutely perfect which more than what I have expected is. The structures of the castles serves as our background and it will be ideal to maximize whatever photo opportunities we can get. The substantial price will all be worth it for our occasion since it can offer so much more than we have planned. I am certain that all of our guests will have a great time on our wedding day and I cannot wait to celebrate our love with all of them.

  • Travel with kids without losing your sanity!

Date: 2012.02.25 | Category: family, kids, parenting, travel | Response: 0

Too many new sights and sounds at once can over stimulate your baby, and toddlers get bored having to sit still or sightsee for long periods of time instead of being able to run around and explore at their own energetic pace.

Think of your young traveling companion as someone who will add a whole new dimension to your travel experiences. Be sure you dial down your expectations, set realistic goals, and take it nice and easy. Here are some parent-tested suggestions for traveling with a young child:

    1. Be flexible

Traveling with children can be a wonderful experience — if you go with the flow. Too many new sights and sounds at once can over stimulate your baby, and toddlers get bored having to sit still or sightsee for long periods of time instead of being able to run around and explore at their own energetic pace.

Keep your itinerary simple — limit it to one activity a day— and you’ll find it much easier to make last- minute adjustments if your child gets tired or lust wants to spend the afternoon playing in the hotel’s wading pool.

    2. Pick a family-friendly destination

Choose a relaxing destination that’s used to young visitors so you don’t have to sweat the details. We recommend a lazy beach retreat, family camp, nature resort, or similar kid-friendly place. But skip the crowded, over stimulating tourist destinations, places without shade, and other unsuitable spots.

    3. Bring water and plenty of snacks

A bag of snacks and a water bottle are critical components of any trip. Children can get dehydrated during a flight or a long drive. Best bets include treats such as raisins, bananas, animal crackers, granola bars, small juice cartons, and small boxes of cheerios or other dry cereal. Bring along moist towelettes for cleaning up Give your children something to look forward to by dispensing snacks at pre-announced intervals,

    4. Plan frequent rest stops

If you’re driving, break up your trip so your kids can stretch and run around to blow off some pent-up energy. Pack a rubber or foam ball for a game of catch and some simple board books for quiet time. Pick out picnic areas, parks, or playgrounds on your route. End your driving day early so all of you have time to unwind after a long day on the road.

    5. Think safety

Bring along a basic childproofing kit to use at your destination. If you are taking a road trip, make sure your baby’s car seat is properly secured; up to 70 percent of all car seats aren’t installed correctly.

Use removable window shades to keep the sun off your baby. You may want to dress your toddler in a brightly colored outfit so he’s easy to spot in a crowd, and put a small card with identification information on it in one of his pockets in case you get separated. Print out our packing checklists for traveling with a baby or toddler for more ideas.

    6.Pack a goodie bag

A good way to keep kids content on a trip is to take along a goodie bag with more toys and doodads than you think you’ll need. Include favorite toys, games, books, and some surprises. Wrap each individually and present your child with a surprise every once in a while.

For toddlers, you might consider puzzles, dolls, action figures, puppets, brightly colored paper, non-toxic crayons, stickers for the car windows, story tapes, and the like. For infants, possibilities include shiny new objects, baby-proof mirrors, rattles, musical toys, soft animals, pop-up toys, plastic keys, or teething rings. Start building your toy cache a few weeks before the trip.

    7. Take practice trips

Make sure your child is ready for a long traveling experience. Lead up to the big trip with short day trips or weekend getaways to see how your child adjusts, then work your way up to a longer trip. Show your toddler pictures of your destination and talk about whom you’ll see and what you’ll be doing there. Your child will take his cue from you: If you convey excitement and positive feelings about your upcoming adventure, chances are your little one will approach the trip the same way.

  • Get rid of neck pain

Date: 2012.01.27 | Category: education, general, health | Response: 0

If you are suffering from stiff neck, try these remedies:

    1. Ice down. An ice pack or ice wrapped in a towel is a good choice when stiffness is just setting in. If your neck has been slightly injured, ice can help hold down swelling.

    2. Take medicine. Over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or ibuprofen will help reduce pain and inflammation.

    3. Sit in a firm chair. The backbone is connected to the neck bone. And if you sit in a chair that doesn’t give you good back support, you increase your chances of worsening existing neck problems and causing new ones.

    4. Take a break. The neck needs a rest from constant sitting. The head is a lot of weight to support without much help from the body. So periodically stand up and walk around.

    5. Keep your chin up. Keep your head level but pull your chin in. Also avoid lowering your head all the time when working at a desk or reading.

    6. Lift carefully. The right way to lift a heavy object is to bend your knees and hold your spine erect while positioning the object between your feet. When you lift an object, keep it as close to your body as possible.

    7. Sleep on a first mattress. A lot of neck problems begin and worsen with poor sleeping habits. Having a firm mattress is important.

    8. Sleep like baby. In other words, sleep in a fetal position, on your side with your knees up toward your chest.

    9. Relax. Just being tense can tighten the muscles in your neck and put you in pain.
